Всем здравствуйте! Меня зовут Лаура, мне 21 лет и я испанка. Я уже 3 лет изучаю русский язык, но ещё очень плохо говорю... В Августе я буду учиться в институте русского языка и культуры, в Санкт Петербурге. Кто-то знает что-то об институте?
Meanwhile, I would like to get to know other people who are studying the language or can help me with it. I am not very confident about my level (sorry about the mistakes I might have made), but I keep trying :P
If anyone sees this and wants to have a language exchange, I would be very happy about it! I will post this in another section anyway, when I get used to how the forum works...

For numerals:
1 - nominative case, singular (год)
2, 3, 4 - genitive case, singular (года)
0, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 - genitive case, plural (лет, because годов is obsolete and sounds weird)

For complex numeral - according to the last digit.

for "years" we usually use word "лет" in plural (except nominative case: многие лета <- is obsolete and sounds weird today -> многие годы. But for genitive: сорок годов <- is obsolete and sounds weird -> сорок лет.)

Comma is needed, because "мне 21 год" and "я — испанка" are simple sentences (can be separated).

Dash is needed because action and object are both nouns.

В августе я буду учиться в институте русского языка и культуры, в Санкт Петербурге.

No capital letters in month names in Russian.

If you are just saying you will study in St. Petersburg there should be no comma. Comma is needed only if you are making accent on it. "I will attend classes, MAKE ATTENTION! IN ST. PETERSBURG".

Кто-нибудь знает что-нибудь/что-то об этом институте?

этом is needed because we don't know what institute you are speaking about.
So you should refer to the previous sentence with "этом" or just "о нём".

-то/-нибудь difference explanation :

Кто-нибудь: someone/anyone, in the sense of "no matter who".

- Кто-нибудь знает, что это? - Does anyone know what it is (no matter who)?
- Мне нужен кто-нибудь, кто умеет водить машину - I need someone who know how to drive. (no matter who)
- Выставь этот стол на улицу; кто-нибудь его заберет. - Put that table out - someone will pick it up (no matter who).

Кто-то: 1) has the same meaning as "кто-нибудь" and may be used in most cases where "кто-нибудь" is used.
2) someone/somebody in the sense of "someone we don't know who, some unknown person, a person whose name one cannot recall".

- Кто-то вошел в спальню - someone has entered the bedroom (some unknown person)
- Я отдал это кому-то, а кому - не помню - I gave it to someone, and I can't remember who it was.
- Тебе от кого-то письмо - You have a letter from someone (I don't know who it is who sent the letter).
