I would say that the verb "to correspond" (переписиваться)could also be used. It implies corresponding by email or via this forum and seems to be more accurate actually.

Here is my correction:

I study English, but to tell you the truth, my knowledge of it leaves much to be desired. I want to correspond with many different people. We can all help each other out.
