Hi Greebgnev,

I found that most of the folks who do the subtitles do them from the very start of the film and you shouldn't have a problem. You can use VLC Media Player. It's free and you can download it here. Then you can launch the VLC Player, Open a movie file, and then pause it and under the VIDEO TAB, Click Subtitle Track to add the subtitles to the movie.

If it's not in sync, here is an article about how to change the tracking of the subtitles.

Also while the movie you can use the key combination 'ctrl + j' to decrease the delay of subtitles and use 'ctrl + h' to increase the delay. For every keystroke a 50millisecond delay is added (or subtracted accordingly).

Now how do you know approximately where to start??? Well, if it is an older movie it should have very close to the beginning of the film the Mosfilm Logo and the English Translation over it. After that you might have written by or directed by and so on and you should be able to follow that.

Watch the opening of Gentleman of Fortune to see what I mean...
