I think it is taking babysteps towards democracy... I am just very curious to see who comes after Putin, if anyone at all!
I doubt Putin will change the constitution to try and make a third term. He can however be re-elected for another two years after sitting out one term.
Why to wait for so long? He will simply set a "technical" president, as Eltsyn used to do with PMs, say, for two months. Then this "technical" president will retire, and... here we are! Putin is a head of modern Russian mafia! Once get involved in state's affairs he will never give it up. I don't belive in Russian democracy. It is absolutely clear that the majority of Russia's pepople even don't need it! I'm just anxious what will be to those who don't approve of Putin's regime... Immigration? Or GULAG and new KGB-FSB repression?Quote:

I'm afraid of my children might got killed in meaningless war for Putin regime in Chechnya. Drugs, AIDS, 59 year-life expectancy for Russian man... IS THAT WHAT YOU STAND FOR, KID? The best proof for this is the Yukos-case, don't you think so?
It was broadcasted in the German news, and they said that the chairman of the oil-firm "yukos" was a political enemy of Putin. Due to that Putin searched a reason to put him into jail. Do you guys know something about that? And what actually happened to this man now?
I also heard that the power of the military in Russia increases...I don't think that this is a development, which indicates a democratic system.
It reminds me more on Russia under the tsar before the revolution...

Do you mean that there is a revolution closing in on Russia? I wouldn't say that. Khodorkovsky was jailed unfairly - there were no proof of his guilt. He was jailed because he dered to challenge Putin. And Putin doesn't like to be qustioned with the issues he couldn't provide answeres for. He was afraid of Khodorkovsky and as far as he doesn't like to surface his weaknesses that was the only way for him. There is an opressive regime in Russia and Putin is regarded as a tsar.Quote:
