This post in Russian means a female user is looking for a preferably native English speaker to help her with English, might be a beginner, no word in English was probably intentional to see if you can understand Russian.

Titles like "I'm looking for a friend" always makes me laugh. It's like on psychiatrist reception: "Doctor, help me please, I'm searching for a friend but nobody wants to be my friend!".
Hey, ladies and gentlemen, call things by their proper names! If you want a penpal, write that you want a penpal, not friend. Do you really think you'll find a friend in this way?!

Well, sometimes people want the kind of friends you can't find in your local neighborhood!

I found my local russian friends through here!

If you didn't see your friend, he or she isn't your friend. If you saw your friend, he or she isn't your penpal. It's my position.

Thank you Анатолий. You're right. I'm a beginner and post in Russian (no word in English) was intentional. My post is addressed to studying Russian.

Pranki, you're wicked. I not wrote 'friend". I wrote "друг". The word "друг" is used in Russian both as near man and penpal or e-pal (друг по переписке). You're Russian and you must know this.

    And I'm not blonde.

You are really lucky man. I had been dissapointed with one of my friend, I knew him for more than 10 years, I thoght I knew him actually. I think it's impossible to call a friend friend after only some chatting so I find posts like this at least a bit wierd.

Друг по переписке is a penpal/e-pal, OK. But друг is not a penpal. I'm a Russian, so I know it
And I'm not wicked, I'm just ...what word does kalinka ever use?... a nitpicker Separation of concepts sometimes helps to live easier.

I met a few my real (not virtual) friends in the net as well. I mean I met them in the net first and only after that I met them in real life. I didn't intentionally look for real friends though, it just turned out they became my real friends.

I don't bother to look for friends, since I have realised that I am so obnoxious.

You can seek friends through pen-palling. It just means that sooner or later you are gonna meet. I agree that you need to meet to be friends, but pen-palling (if that is a verb) could be the first step towards friendship.

    i.e. The headline is correct

Whether she meant it like that is another thing!

kalinka_vinnie, yeah you can look for friends but if you really want to find a friend or even a penpal friend, give some personal information about yourself first, like your age, interests, what you like and dislike etc. You're the one who needs a friend, so you have to arouse interest in yourself. Why should potential friends waste their time to write you back to find out that information? So I think writing only "Hey, I'm a cool girl/guy, I'm looking for friends. Write me!" is just stupid.

net surfer's quite unbiassed, and I think it's the properest time to stop flooding here.
