Русское слово "бабушка"? По-моему, само слово не смешое для англоговорящих, а сами бабушки - смешные. :DQuote:

I don't know if they actually think its a FUNNY word, though yeah it does sound a little strange. But thats just to us americans, and everyone knows we're retarded so oh well.
Yeah, Dogboy got the point.
"Bloomsbury dictionary of difficult words" says that "babushka" is "a woman's scarf, worn as a head covering with the ends tied under the chin."
Yes, in English it means a headscarf, but lots of people will have never heard the word babushka before. Also English speakers say babooshka (misplaced stress).Quote:

A while back my Mrs and I were walking down the highstreet where we live and were accosted by two teenage-to-early-twenties girls handing out fliers for a new nightclub. It was called BABOOSHKAS. They were both wearing jackets, teeshirts and baseball caps with BABOOSHKAS logos on them.
I bet that place was banging.
No doubt. I guess in a certain context it could sound a little... uh, suggestive.Quote:

There is a bar in London called Bar Booshka... geddit!? I think it's in London. It's somewhere in England anyway.
There is a nightclub in Moscow called "Sorry Babushka". You'll sure have fun standing in line for 45 minutes.
