Blockbuster. (That is the specific store though http://www.blockbuster.com/)Originally Posted by Ramil
By the way, I think that "rent a video" in a sense that you probably mean should be "rent a movie" while "rent a video" means more like rent a video game these days. However, most of the time both could be rented from the same store.Originally Posted by Ramil
That's one of those things that depends on where you are and who you are asking.By the way, I think that "rent a video" in a sense that you probably mean should be "rent a movie" while "rent a video" means more like rent a video game these days.
I cannot speak for the rest of the world nut, in England at least, you will still find plenty of people who will "rent a video". As well as perhaps a regional thing, it is possibly more common in those who grew up with VHS.
Also, in England, the word "film" is pretty common, possibly more so than "movie", when talking about the same thing.
Well, I would say that where I'm from (northeast US), it's most common to hear "rent a movie", but "rent a video" would be perfectly acceptable as well.
I agree, "rent a movie" would be most common for most of the USA, but "rent a video" would not sound odd, either.Originally Posted by brandonp

In Arizona "rent a video" usually means "rent a movie." I'd expect to hear "rent a video game" for an actual game, not just "rent a video."
Sometimes we just say “video store.” Sample dialogs:Originally Posted by Ramil

“There's a video store just down the street.”
“Why don't you rent a video for after dinner?”
“Okay, what do you want to see?”
“How about the original Star Wars?”
“Not again! We've already watched it twice this month!”
“Do you want to watch a movie tonight?”
“I wouldn't mind, but I won't have time to get one.”
“That's okay. I can pick one up at the video store on the way home.”
Thanks everyone
