    вагончик

    This is a вагончик where workers (house-builders) can live.
    How is it called in English? Hangar? Shed? Trailer?

    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    This is hard because builders don't use such things in English speaking countries.

    In England we have Portakabins (it's a brand name), often mispelled as Portacabin.



    Portakabin is a brand name, it's a contraction of "Portable cabin".

    Not really, because it's a brand name and we don't have that brand here (as far as I know).

    Not like we have Portapotties, and in Britain they use Portaloos, but we would understand each other. However, if somebody on a construction site told me to find the boss in the Portakabin, I would guess the meaning and look for him in the portable shelter used as a planning office, but without the context I think I'd be lost.

    We Americans generally call that sort of thing a trailer, even if it doesn't have attached wheels.

    Why not? If (for whatever reason) they had to live at the construction site temporarily, where do you think they would live?

    You're right that construction workers in the West usually go home at the end of the day, if that's what you meant.

    Well, I'm just saying that I've never heard of workers living at the construction site and the trailers typically serve as breakrooms/offices for the company.

    Ну допустим, они там не живут, а ХРАНЯТ там свои инструменты. И когда им ДНЁМ бывают нужны инструменты, они их там БЕРУТ. А ещё они там ОБЕДАЮТ и/или ПЬЮТ ЧАЙ.

    Так нормально?

    That sounds like a high-tech work shed to me

    BTW, there are such "trailers" at construction sites, they are used as offices for the managers and stuff like that. I don't think they are called trailers though.

    Так делают, когда хотят выделить ключевые слова в каком-то предложении. Так что слова подчёркнуты вовсе не случайно=). Разве так не делают в английском?

    Man. Sound it out... Port-a-cabin. I've never heard of one either but, is it so hard to understand?

    Ну я просто хотела подчеркнуть, что они там не живут, то есть не спят.
    Хотя у нас могут сказать про такой вагончик "там рабочие живут", даже если они там не ночуют. А просто потому что это их вагончик.

    Я когда-то слышал как кто-то назвал вагончик 'prefab' от 'prefabricated building'. Не знаю, распространённое ли это слово, к тому же может относиться к всем таким зданиям, не только на стройках.
