    server

    what's the right version:

the program is on the server
    or
the program is in the server

(I googled it and discovered that both ways are almost equally popular)

    Thanks in adv.

Didn't you forget quotes? 57:8 , where most of second is really "program is in the server’s search path"

"program on the server" vs "program in the server" is 50000:600.
Russian is tough, let’s go shopping!

Go with "The program is on the server".

Go with "The program is on the server".
+1. But you would say something is "in" the computer's memory.
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

    Chuvak,

I think you can use both versions... both are equally understandable.

"On the server", in my opinion, is the grammatically correct, more accepted, and more natural phrase. But "in" or "on"... both are O.K. in Business English.

    Chuvak, don't listen to Dobry!
You will sound like a dork and be made extreme fun of if you say "in the server".

I wrote that the more understandable version was "on the server"... but "in the server" is still understandable, especially since main/system programs are loaded "in" memory, as Бармалей wrote. Then, "in" would be correct.

Yep, Chuvak don't listen to me! I make everyone sound like a dork!

    Still... use "on the server."

Do not use "IN THE SERVER". Jeez, Dobry where did you get that? Of course, anybody will understand you. Just like anybody can understand this thread-caption that I found on another site: do you want say in english with me?: http://info.study.ru/index.cgi?open=1162052256_84025

Well, "in the server" sounds just like that.

OTOH, I myself just the other day was in a server. Damn drives f-ing up, had to pull data cables out to replace, swap drives, etc. I spent most of last week in the server room, working on this one server. (BTW I bet that's how you get even those paltry 600 "in the server" hits.)
