Thread: to tempt and to seduce

I'm confused with using "tempt" (temptation) and "seduce" (seduction). Are they absolutely the same?

"Seduce" has more of a sexual connotation(though it does not necessarily have to). "Tempt" can simply mean you're inclined to do something, e.g. "I'm tempted to do this," but you would never say "I'm seduced to do this." However if you mean luring someone with some sort of reward to do something(especially something wrong), they can be used interchangeably. Would the other English speakers say that if you were seduced by a woman, you've already betrayed your wife, but if you were tempted by a woman, it's possible you haven't yet betrayed her?

Yes, if one is seduced by another woman, then he has already betrayed his wife, but being tempted is not betraying her, as long as he doesn't give into his temptation....then it becomes seduction, which becomes adultery and all that other "bad stuff".

А в чем вопрос? По-русски ведь точно такая же разница между искушать и совращать...

if you are on a diet, chocolate is very tempting.
if you are married and another woman tries to take you to bed, she is seducing you.
the woman that tries to take you to bed can be tempting, too.
