    What kind of clithing is it? What is "suit" here?

    I believe its the equivalent of 'костюм' in Russian.

    (excuse the spelling, I've only ever heard it, never seen it written down)

    Наверняка "suit" тут означает костюм (your spelling is perfect, Scotcher ), соответствено "suit jacket" это или пиджак от костюма или пиджак предназначенный для ношения с костюмом. Наверное можно сказать "костюмный пиджак".
