One other really common one you may encounter is "Sean." It is not pronounced Сийн as you may expect, but actually "Шан." Weird, but true...
Irish is even worse than English when it comes to spelling. There is some logic though. Remember these names come from a different language, with different pronunciation.Quote:

Practically, it's not Жон but Жан.
I have a good friend by the name of Siobhan and it's pronounced Shi-von. The 'i' is short and not drawn out at all.
