    liberal guilt

What does it mean? Is this phrase sometimes used in the media? (this phrase is used in last episode of BBad when Walter threatens his uber-rich ex-partner and his wife and tells them to create an irrevocable fund to transfer 9 mln. USD to Walter's son. As they are uber-rich it is supposedly possible that they could feel 'liberal guilt'.)

I've seen the definition in Urban Dictionary: feeling bad cuz you have more than other people.

Other than that I couldn't find a proper explanation.

    Quite a few definitions here:

One big example of it in USA, President Obama and democrats in congress passed the Afforable Care Act otherwise known as Obamacare. It's so great that they exempted themselves from it.

"Liberal guilt" is an expression used by conservatives in the US whenever they oppose something positive which liberals do.

Affordable Health Care, for example, will mean that millions of Americans, including myself, will finally be able to see a doctor after going for years without health insurance because it was too expensive. Congress and the President are "exempted" not because AHC is a bad thing, but because they already have the highest level of coverage available as a benefit of their position.

People also refer to "liberal guilt" as a kind of misplaced kindness. For example, if a liberal man helps his son-in-law out financially, instead of spending the money on feeding starving people in Africa or housing the homeless or other so-called "liberal" concerns.

Then why wouldn't Congress and the President make their health care plan available for the whole country? From what I heard, the insurance offered now has "affordable" premiums but have huge deductibles. Did you sign up or look at the details? If so, what did you experience?

I have signed up. It was quick and easy and my monthly premium will be $70. Annual deductible is $2500 and only $5 - $10 co-pay on hospital/clinic visits
I am very pleased with it.

Wow! Where do I go to sign up for that? If you max out the deductible it comes to $278 a month. Still a good price i think? Of course I'm not going to ask your salary but is your price subsidized? I'll check healthcare.gov but I get insurance through my work and suspect it's the cheapest way for me? What's the copay to see a doctor not at a clinic?

Well, it also varies from state to state apparently. But you are correct, our household income is below average at this time. My husband had a heart transplant four years ago and he is on disability, which is how we were able to qualify for the lower premiums. I for one am grateful for the exchanges though. Without them, my monthly cost is between $350 and $400 - which I absolutely cannot afford.

Hopefully Obamacare works better then the website. Even CNN can't sign up:

After Two Weeks CNN Reporter Still Hasn't Been Able To Sign Up For ObamaCare | NewsBusters

Scary (to my conservative self) that the same government that used the IRS against conservative groups is now in charge of this portion of health care.

Well, the exchange sites have been experiencing a very high volume of traffic because a lot of people are trying to sign up! And to be clear, "the government" is not in charge of our health care. Doctors will still administer health care as always and insurance companies will still sell insurance as always. The law does not mean the government is going to open up big DMV-type buildings with long lines and they won't be building concentration camps or creating death panels, contrary to what FOX "news" has been saying.

No it'll be roses and feel good stories as the main stream media progressive lapdogs continue to "report".

I worked in TV news for 15 years and I can assure you, there is nothing liberal or progressive about the media. Most of my co-workers were right-wing conservatives, most of them were actually very religious (and some even thought God put them in TV news so they could become one of "the two witnesses"), and we were owned by right-wing, conservative companies. The only reason some people believe the media is "liberal" is because they listen to people like Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck.

As for what I said here about AHC, it is my own experience and so far it has been very good.

Agreed. At least, Alex is getting some comedy except the liberal guilt description is totally wrong. The mainstream media is ALWAYS ultimately leftist, saying otherwise is sheer nonsense.

    Of course there are.

Media Matters, for starters, and there are many more.

    Mods,
Can the site please add an "That's funny" choice next to the "Like" and "Share" choices?

Debroski - obviously we have way different views on media bias. I don't see a point in continuing with this, do you?

    Thank you,

    Scott
