Queen-Innuendo-Ride the wild wind

I have been listening to Queen's album Innuendo lately. Again and again.
I have few questions for native English speakers..
1. What does "innuendo" mean?
2. What is "Bijou"
3. In the song "Ride the wild wind" - is he singing about motorcycle ride? It's not obvious in the lyrics..

OK, I'll throw another question along with those.
Moulin Rouge - there is a song "Come what may"
Is the best way to express it in Russian - "будь что будет"?

Yes, it is. The obsolete form of expressing subjunctive mood. A few expressions survived as idioms. E.g., Bless you!; Success attend you!; So be it!; Come what will!, etc.

BTW, tehre is a comma after будь. 8)

Success attend you? Come what will? never heard of those, but your argument still holds (I think).

1) innuendo: an indirect remark, gesture, or reference, usually implying something derogatory == insinuation

2) where do you see Bijou? :o Bijou: 1)a jewel 2) something small and exquisite == trinket

3) Well, I don't think you should take the lyrics too literal, I don't think it is about motorcycles... knowing Queen it is probably about drugs. Ride the wild wind = take drugs :roll: :wink:

1. No idea..but dictionary.com has this to say "An indirect or subtle, usually derogatory implication in expression; an insinuation" Oh! Now I got it. I will later "take a stab" at a translation of Queen. (I *think the former sentence of mine was an innuendo---anybody? Am I correct)
2. A swamp in south west america...dirty nasty places with alligators, boggy.
3. "Living on the Edge" I'll attempt to translate...though I don't listen to queen and have never seen this song, it is very similar to phrase in a song by another band "Aeorsmith's" "Living on the Edge"

Yes, most of them are really obsolete, and it's stated in grammar books.

I guess, my literal guess about motorcycles was caused by revving sounds in the music.. and my mood mostly.

And sorry, I still didn't get the meaning of "Innuendo". I've read the dictionary myself, before posting the question.. May be I'm dumb, but can someone "translate" the definition to the simpliest english possible? with pictures and examples? ;)

Bijou - it's the name of the song from Innuendo album. So is it a swamp or a jewel?

Just to be on the safe side -- if it's of any help:

Innendo -- косвенный намёк; инсинуация. Synonymical expressions -- an oblique hint, an indirect allusion, etc.

Bijou -- драгоценная вещь (plural -- bijoux). A possyble synonym is "jewel" (you got that :wink: )[/b]

A "Bijou" is an old person's term for movie cinema (or "Movie Theater" as we refer to it) A Bayou (pronounced bi-you) is commonly recognized as being a swampy area.

*goes to look at lyrics*

(personally, I like their song for the movie "Flash Gordon". "We are the champions" sounded pretty good, until it got associated with gay rights)

Whoever wrote the lyrics for Bijou was probably illiterate or on drugs. Because that song doesn't make any sense. (sorry, not your fault) But I would think that they were trying to say, that how romantic movies always has a happy ending, with the guy and the girl riding off into the sunset.. "happy ever after". That must be what he was talking about.

And the "Ride the Wild Wind" sounds about right if it was talking about a motorcycle. Because when you ride on one, and the wind is always rushing at you, the throbbing of the exhaust, the vibration of the wheels on the asphalt. "Wild Ride" would come close to describing this.

I've never heard the word "Bijou," but the word for "swamp" in Louisiana and Florida is "Bayou" (pronounced "баю," stress on the first syllable). It's not a very common word; usually you hear it in reference to things like "down on the bayou" or "there's a lot of gumbo and alligators on the bayou."

As for the "Wild Wind" song, it's likely an innuendo for drug use, rampant sexual congress (having sex often and usually unprotected), or both. Both of these things are common in the life of a Rock star, and seem to go hand in hand with their self-destructive attitude.

Does it necessarily have to be negative though? I think it's basically just a second meaning, obscured behind an intentionally constructed phrase of primary meaning.
