Grandma's boyfriend

A 5 yr old boy went to visit his grandmother one day. While playing with his toys in her bedroom while Grandma was dusting, he looked up and said, Grandma, how come you dont have a boyfriend?
Grandma replied, Honey, my TV is my boyfriend. I can sit in my bedroom and watch it all day long. The TV evangelists keep me company and make me feel so good. The comedies make me laugh. I'm really happy with the TV as my boyfriend. Grandma turned on the TV and the reception was terrible. She started adjusting the knobs, trying to get the picture in focus. Frustrated, she finally started hitting the backside of the TV, hoping to fix the problem.
The little boy heard the doorbell ring, so he hurried to open the door, and there stood a man.
The man said, Hello, son, is your grandma home?
The little boy replied, Yeah, but she is in the bedroom banging her boyfriend.
Grandma's minister fainted.

Может быть, с «нестандартностью» это я загнул, но в остальном всё верно.

«And a man stood there» будет, по-моему, скажем, кхе, так, «стандартнЕе».

Даже так? Лично я первый раз встретил фразу, где слова развернуты в таком порядке, что больше свойственно русскому языку. Даже в разговорной речи не встречал. В анлийском же вроде бы строгий порядок слов: Subject+Predicate+Object+Adjunct.

Поверь, это миф. Я тоже много нового для себя открыла про английский за последние пару месяцев. Например, можно вполне сказать "That I cannot tell you" (Этого я вам сказать не могу).

и так:
You do not know what to tell?

Лучше сказать, что структура языка гибкая, и при необходимости он может, так сказать, «изгибаться» в нужную сторону для придания того или иного эффекта.

Нормальная грамматика. Есть термин для таких оборотов -- inversion, или inverted word order. Часто со словами there плюс глагол, напр came.

You can, if you wish, read "Синтаксис английского языка." by А. И. Смирницкий to get more information about that. I've seen it on www.franklang.ru English language is more interesting than Zadornov thinks.

I really got interested of "inverted word order" constructions in English. Just found a site via Google (following the chaika's link), here http://www.fortunecity.com/bally/dur.../gramch24.html it is, and now reading it. By the way, http://www.franklang.ru. is not opening now (maybe temporarily ).

English language is more interesting than Zadornov thinks.

Just delete the dot (.) after "ru".

I'm sorry! It's my fault.

Inverted word order is only really used in such a way in literature. It puts emphasis on the subject, and also can create suspense.

"and there stood a man". Because in English usually the subject comes before the verb, inverting the order means the reader has to wait longer to find out 'who' is doing the action. And since the subject of the verb is the final piece of information in the sentence, it puts emphasis on him/her.
