Russian subtitles/voice? Are you kidding. These days most movies have aweful translation, didn't you know?

    E.g. Jersy Girl:
    - My dad says life can be split into two categories: New Jersey and New York.

    - Daddy said, because Mommy survived her first trip to Jersey, he know she was a keeper.

    - And that's how I got here.

    - Do we have enough of these at home, or should I steel some?
    - Put those away. If you're gonna steel something, still some rubber gloves.

And all this in less then 5 minutes :/

The best way is to LISTEN in the target language, and have subtitles in that language also. That way when you don't understand something u can just look at the words and, if you didn't understand it because

    1) you didn't hear it, then you know what that word sounds like
    2) you didn't know the word, well then now u know how its spelled, and after u look it up u know what it means.

If u watch with subtitles in your own language, u just end up reading them the whole time and u dont pay attention to the film at all.

If you watch with no subtitles, how are u supposed to learn anything?

No offense, but do you have something other than a low budget, never heard of it, couldn't (well maybe) pay me to watch it, unknown actor, probably didn't even have a native translator, movie to state your point? Maybe something from Sony? He will learn in what way is best for him. Personally, I think he should try a little of all of his options to see what "clicks" for his learning style and attention span. I say. Enjoy a movie in your own language while looking at the overall word structure of another..for starters. Then again, he asked.

    ROFL
Ben Affleck is an unknown actor or maybe Jennifer Lopez? Oh, I know! Kevin Smith is an unknown director. And of course Miramax Films is an unknown distributor. Don't be so ignorant.

Do you really think that larger budget movies have better translation. Then I'll disappoint you, most translations regardless of budget suck these days. If I have time, I'll give you another example of a larger budget movie. Or maybe someone else will give it.

    PS: No hard feelings

Well, occasionally I have turned English subtitles on with English voice, and have noticed that there are quite a few instances in each movie where the subtitles are not exactly the same as the voice. Usually the subtitles will not have a word or two that was actually said in voice. This is probably done to show the meaning of the scene and not have so much to read - to help those viewers who cannot hear very well. Be careful in thinking that the subtitles are a word-for-word translation of the voice - many times this is not correct.
