    mourn over/for

    over or for?
    "We were mourning for (over?) our friend."
    In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    Both are acceptable, although I find 'over' sounds a bit strange to my ear. I think "mourn for" is much more common.

    It can also be used without a preposition, by the way.
    We were mourning our friend.
