    вот тогда-то...

Как правильно перевести эту фразу? Мой вариант:

    - Помнишь, [мы ездили в Нью-Йорк]?
    - Помню.
    - Вот тогда-то Джек и Мэри влюбились друг в друга.

    - Do you remember [us going to New York / something else / never mind]?
    - I do.
    - It was when Jack and Mary fall in love with each other.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

That was when Jack and Mary fell in love.
I would keep the verbs in the past tense.

Я голосую за that. По крайней мере лично я в таких конструкциях обычно слышу именно that.

It is может употребляться в значении "именно", но в конструкциях другого типа:
It is this house with a red roof that I live in. Т.е. It is употребляется в том случае, если за ним следует указание на то место, предмет, событие, обстоятельство, которые "именно".

Если же ты рассказала об этом месте и т.д. в предыдущем предложении, то следущее начинаешь с that:
Remember I showed you a house with a red roof? That's where I live now. (По-моему, мне приходилось слышать, как native speakers иногда использую this вместо that в этой ситуации. Но чаще всё же that)

Если ты прямо сейчас показываешь дом и/или знаешь, что собеседник смотрит на него прямо сейчас, то можно сказать This is where I live.

Что касается времени, то фраза This is when будет уместна когда ты, например, показываешь гостю альбом с фотографиями и говоришь: "This is when blah-blah-blah" (т.е. во время события, изображённого на снимке).
Ещё один случай, когда уместно this is when - это когда ты говоришь о настоящем времени.

    my 2 cents...
It was then that Jack and Mary fell in love. ( while "with each other" literally translates the Russian, it's redundant in English and is never expressed that way.)

To me, "it was when Jack and Mary fell in love" sounds odd, like they were walking down the street and bang, they fell in love. "It was then" allows for falling in love to be the culmination of a process, implying that they have been nurturing feelings for one another for some time. "When" is useful for events occuring at a specific moment like "it was when the train arrived." "It was then" can refer to a general period of time: ...while I was living in New York, it was then that I started writing.

Oddly enough, when I saw the post still unanswered my first impulse was to offer It was then that ..., but I thought: "Who am I to stand against heavy artillery of the native speakers?", and wrote nothing. Then it turns out sperk - a native speaker - thinks as well as I do. Бывает же такое!?

This implies that the question "when did Jack and Mary fall in love" has been asked, but there is no hint of this in the passage.

Possibly, but not necessarily. They could have been discussing Jack and Mary generically, and the speaker could be offering an unexpected new piece of information.
