Scent of a Women motion picture

I can't fully understand this quote from the movie Scent of a Woman
Lyndon's line on Gerry Ford. Deputy debriefer, Paris, peace talks, '68. Snagged a silver star and a silver bar. Threw me into G-2.
What does the first sentence mean? I realize that he is talking about two U.S. presidents but I do not understand the idea. Thanks in advance.
I would be grateful if you would correct my mistakes, since I would like my English to sound as natural as possible.

Here's a bit more: Lt. Col. Frank Slade: I know exactly where your body is. What I'm looking for is some indication of a brain. Too much football without a helmet? Hah! Lyndon's line on Gerry Ford. Deputy debriefer, Paris, peace talks, '68. Snagged a silver star and a silver bar. Threw me into G-2.
    Charlie Simms: G-2?
Lt. Col. Frank Slade: Intelligence. Of which you have none.

It's been a long time since I've seen the movie, and don't remember much, but based on this:
-Lyndon's line = the joke about "too much football without a helmet." The idea of course, is that they played this rough sport without protection and now their brains are mush.
-Deputy debriefer, etc. = his role at these peace talks
-Silver star and silver bar = prestigious military awards
-G-2, judging by the next line = intelligence agency
Заранее благодарю всех за исправление ошибок в моём русском.

    Erm, '68? Why's the year?

This was the backdrop as the United States and Hanoi agreed to enter into preliminary peace talks in Paris in 1968. However, almost as soon as the talks were started, they stalled. When President Lyndon Johnson turned over the presidency to Richard Nixon eight months into the talks, the only thing the two sides had agreed on was the shape of the conference table.

President Lyndon Johnson's joke about (future President)Gerald Ford -- he's saying Ford is weak in the head/stupid.
