    Dean & Jerry

You can’t talk about one without the other. It would be like discussing the success of Elton John without Bernie Taupin, or Dean without Jerry or American Idol without Simon Cowell.

    Ok, who's that?
It was easy to find out who's Taupin or Cowell since there were given the last names. What's about Dean & Jerry I have some ideas but I'd like to know for sure.
    Thanks.

Dean Martin and Jerry Lewis. Dean Martin was a crooner -- one of the Rat Pack along with Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr. Jerry Lewis was a famous comedian. They did a bunch of comedy acts together. Check this out:

And I think you understand the point of the sentence but I'll say in anyway:
They're just saying that they are inseparable -- you can't have борщ without the сметана.

    Wow. Thanks, Бармалей!
Were they famous enough to be mentioned that way? I've never heard of them.

Да, это было понятно. (все равно что Чапаев без Петьки или Винни-Пух без Пятачка )

I think it helps considerably if you're an old fart. Those aren't really people known very well to my generation. I know OF them, but I've never seen the comedy acts or whatever. Like I said, Dean Martin I really only know as a singer, and Jerry Lewis is probably more known in today's pop culture as a) a guy who does a telethon every year (a fundraising program on tv that raises money for charity -- I think it's muscular dystrophy?) or b)and I'm not really knowledgable about this one, but somewhere I heard someone joking about him with something like "a comedian who only the French find funny."

As far as I'm concerned, that's the equivalent (if not worse than) of saying "Move to the Arctic, Carrot Top is a comedic Demi-God there."

May Don Rickles "play" at your funeral Brml

And after a year in the Antarctic, yes, even Carrot Top would be funny, because you'd be in Reno to see him. (or Branson, MO and you would miss the Antarctic.)
