Well the word order is wrong in 1.2 and 1.3... the corrected version is in 1.1!

You could also say, "His most urgent problem was to find a cook."

Yep, and you could say also, " To see them together is strange ".

I agree with Тостер. This sounds the most natural.

But if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to pick from your list, I would choose "1.1 To find a cook was his most urgent problem"

    You could also use:

Finding a cook was his most urgent problem.
Finding a cook was the most urgent problem of his.

I don't think 'To find' is used as commonly as finding, it does sound a bit bookish to me, unless it's meant to sound formal, in which case the first two are fine.

I agree, both of them can be used, they meant the exact same thing, however the second one is used more in normal conversation.

You could also use: Seeing them together is strange.
Please correct any Russian language mistakes I make.

I don't know, this sounds a little funny. Maybe, "Finding a cook was the most urgent problem he had." I understand that the grammer is probably wrong, but that's how languages are, people speak incorrectly all the time.

What was the problem doing? Finding a cook? Did it succeed in it?

You know what, guys. Your most urgent problem is how to make yourselves stop sneering at the poor sentence
