Что такое the_sh_it? Это ведь положительное значение, да?

    Все чаще встречаю выражение, например

    this car is the sh_it

причем из контекста я вижу что говорящий, употребляет это как достоинство, как отличную оценку.

Спрашивается, что за фигня такая? Почему?

    Thanks a lot

It's low class slang. It means "very nice".

    Similar expression: "da bomb".

There are several slang expressions in English that are the opposite of what they look like. The older one was "bad". If you said, "Your car is baaaaaaad!" that meant that your car is very nice or impressive. No one says "bad" anymore, though.

True. Now we say "bad ass" or "off the hook" (pronounced off da hook)

'Damn, man! You see that car with them bad ass rims! Sh*t's off the hook hot!'

Also, about eight years ago, "stupid" was popular for something impressive. I haven't heard it recently though.

Low class? Yeah thats right I just stole satellite internet from my rich neighbors and routed it to my trailer park.

It's not 'low class' its just what some people choose to say. No one has said "da bomb" since 1996 and no one has ever said 'stupid' for cool.

Though, seeing as your from north kakalaka I can't imagine you're very "high class" yourself.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

Interestingly, there's a possible double negative of sorts here as well.

If someone from around here say something like "bad ass" or "da bomb", they are actually sarcastically insulting both the object and anyone who might like the object at the same time.

For example, I'd call a really chavved-up Ford Focus with big after-market alloys, a huge spoiler, big exhausts, and a loud paint job "bad ass", but that doesn't mean I think it's good, it means I think it's horrible and that the sort of people who do like that style (baseball cap-wearing morons) have no taste, small brains, and deserve to be ridiculed just for having the audacity to visually pollute my view.

    Rap music is da bommmmmmmmmb.

    See how it works?

I don't know. As far as "the sh_it" goes, are you sure it's not "hot sh_it!" That definitely has a positive connotation to me. Scotcher's pimpmobile is hot sh_it! Wanna buy me one of dem babies!!

OTOH just sh_it is also a reference to drugs.

Nah, I've definitely heard "X is the sh_t."

Not to be confused with "X has the sh_ts", which means X is suffering from diarrhoea.

Also, be careful with statements like:

Eat this pizza! It is the sh_it [in a very low, almost inaudible voice] of a cow!

No, no, I've came across only 'the sh_it', never 'hot s_hit'. Hot shi_t is probably all sorts of warmed up fast food that fat women in durty aprons sell on Moscow streets these days.
