When something moves/goes you use "по"

Машина двигается (едет) по тротуару
Труп идёт по тротуару

If something/somebody stands/lies you use "на"

Машина стоит на тротуаре
Труп лежит на тротуаре

yea, what about when using на for in, i sweat to god i have seen this before.

Like на поезде/самолёте? If you are travelling "in" one of these, why not just use the instrumental and drop the preposition?

Я ехал на поезде = Я ехал поездом. (But the second sounds a little bit old-fashioned).
