В два счета.~In a jiffy, very quickly, just a sec (U.S.)


Два- Two

Счет- n. Masc. (Pl. Счота) - Count, calculation, account, bill, invoice, sport score.


Anyone know if this originates from musical terms? It says... "in two counts", is that like two counts in a music score?

Нет.. "Как дважды четыре" - это, например:

Это ясно как дважды два четыре
Это ясно как Божий день


В два счета - синоним - "Как два пальца обоссать" :D Но это не очень прилично =)) (like to urinate on two fingers)

Does 'В два счета' get used a lot?

I'm not really the type to say 'in a jiffy' I hate that type of talk... so would this just pass as 'just a sec' as in not sounding so...undesirable to say?

I don't think so. Personally I don't say that, well at least I can't remember when I said that. But it's pretty common.

Yes, it's the most polite answer

You should know that all of the mentioned phrases:
в два счёта
сию секунду
одну секундочку
are used in a different sense, i. e. they are not synonyms
