    Flying mice

A bat.

I found this funny, because in english, people who don't like bats refer to them as "Flying mice" or "Flying rats". It was funny to see in russian they are refered to this way too.

Interesting, I didn't know that. And can't you call them flying mice if you like them?

'Flying rats' are pigeons where I come from, for their ability to spread filth and disease rather than any evolutionary considerations.

@ Friendy. I think if you like bats you just call them bats, and if you like mice you just call them mice .

@Waxwing. True, pigeons are also called flying rats, because they are so filthy.

    pigeon in russian = Голубь

Hm, i guess russian respects their birds more =P.

I was watching the movie "The Great Outdoors" the other day and they called a bat a "flying mouse" or something like that. I remember I was surprised to hear that!

The opera Die Fledermaus is called Летучая мышь in Russian, which really confused me for a bit when I went to buy tickets. Because I am dim.

There are many and many languages where they are refered to as flying mice or dogs....in f.ex in Swedish they can be called both flying dogs and mice.....
