Just curious, what kind of tv shows do people like to watch in Russia ?
Is there stupid stuff like Fear Factor? And are there excellent programs such as South Park ?
-I need to know what I'm in for if I ever travel.

They have both!
good...good. What interesting shows do they have that are not american.
How much influence is there from the west anyway ?
Not american? I remember we had a good intellectual game "Что? Где? Когда?" (What? Where? When?)
But now it's an intellectual casino.
I don't whatch tv for several years (well... sometimes... tv news). Too many ads - I can't bear this. :)
Well, the little time I spent there I was surprised to see that most that you find here you find there on TV. Like Do you want to be a millionaire, reality tv shows, the russian version of american idol (fabrika?) etc.
There were a couple of funny Russian tv-shows and a plethora of "concerts" on the weekends. That was my favourite, they would have famous Russian singers performing and comedians... Russkie Babi - hilarious! Other than that, I bet you won't be spending too much time wathcing tv there anyway, there is so much else Russia has to offer! :)
There's supposed to be lots of activities here, yet I'm glued to the tube.
What does the semi-social quiet type of person do there ?
For example, I would NOT be interested in clubbing.
My favorite show is Саша + Маша. I also love школа ремонта and Москва: инструкция. But for laughs you have to watch две блондинки против грязи. You can check these shows out on the TNT chanel at http://www.tnt-tv.ru/index.html
Curious - do they have in Russia something really intellectual on TV ? Like , mm .... Jerry Springer SHOW!!?? Jerry rulezz - all the rest "нервно курят в сторонке"
Depends where you will be living. If you will be living in the dorms, you will have so many friends you won't have time to even brush your teeth. Forget about sleep, parties will be very loud and your roommate (because you will have one) will want to party with you. That is at least my impression of the dorms ! :-)
If you live with a family (recommended), you probably will be with them and do cultural stuff like going to the theatre. Russia is famous for their operas, so don't miss out on this oppertunity, ms. Not so Social.
If you are so lucky to have your own apartment (to your great expense), I might believe in tube glueing activities. Depending where you are going, but just walking around the city with some friends could be a great experience...
So what is your story? Where when for how long?
..... and with whom? :DQuote:
Where when for how long?
Both? As far as I know only the first and the second seasons of South Park were shown on TV (Ren-TV channel). And only once. Though one time I came across it on MTV channel but the translation (text and voices) was so aweful that I couldn't stand it.Quote:

I can get RenTv on my Tv, anyone have any opinions about this channel?
There are a lot of choices even without cable. We get 3 sports channels, a culture channel, a channel that only plays American movies and shows (voiced over in Russian), MTV, and more. Mtv regulars are Southpark, The Osborns, Pimp My Ride and all those stupid American reality date/hookup shows along their Russian versions. And don't diss the comercials. They are by far more clever and entertaining than American comercials. (I love the Nescafe ones with the 2 guys in the snow covered cabin 8) )
I watched a commercial for a "blowup-sofa/madrass/divan/bed (Dvukhmestnyj) :D
It was a lot of fun!
These shows should be banned in Russia I tell you . What is wrong with Putin that he could allow this type of foolishness to pervert the russian culture? Or pehaps these shows are viewed by Russians only as a curiosity as one would view the half man-half woman at the circus?Quote:

She's too inflexible. She expects top customer service and that schedules will be maintained. I think all the red tape would do her in - or me ! :o
When are you going?
Maybe after I have more than 3 weeks worth of language study. :)
Trying to save up to buy a house as well.
As for the television, I quit paying the outrageous cable bill, I mean it is just alot of brainwashing / brain-numbing garbage anyway. They should be paying ME to watch it !
Good for you, while you are at it throw out the TV set or turn it into an aquarium!
