Actually, in Polish it would've been LavignskA 'cause it's the femine suffix, the -ski thing is used for males only. Besides, it ain't that popular, I mean, of course there are plenty of surnames that end like that, but you can find just as much with different suffixes. Though most probably the -ski/ska suffix would have ben called a "typical" one.
