    Агата Кристи

    Could someone tell me a little about this group? Someone sent me a few MP3s from Импулс and it sounded like a Chad and Jeremy revival band or something.

    haha

    You're not seriously saying there is a group, band, or other form of music-creating collective, called "Агата Кристи", are you?

    Yes. It's like acoustic guitar pop music. This one song called В первий раз на целину sounds like something you'd hear during a movie's closing credits.

    Good Lord, what a strange world this is, when a succession of circumstances can lead a Russian accoustic-guitar band to name themselves after a dead English writer of upper-middle class detective novels!

    I already found it ammusing that her books were so popular over there (I knew one lass in Yaroslavl who owned the complete works!), but this is even funnier.

    Reading Russian is child's play. It's writing and speaking it that aren't. Monkey see, monkey can't.

    Just the opposite joke:
    ===========
    - Чукча, что ты делаешь?
    - Роман пишу.
    - А разве ты умеешь читать?
    - Чукча не читатель, чукча писатель.
    ===========

    Russian jokes tend to be so politically uncorrect.

    I heard this one in a slightly different form...

    A Chukchen comes to the MGU and tells the literature professor he wants to learn how to be a writer.
    So the professor asks him: "Did you read Tolstoy?"
    The Chukchen shakes his head.
    "Dostoyevski?"
    Again, the Chukchen shakes his head.
    "Chekhov?"
    "No, you misunderstand me. Chukchen wants to be writer, not reader."
    "мужчина в самом рассвете сил"

    So I think this is really positive thinking when you whant to be a writer and not a mere reader.

    Most authors these days seem to have followed this philosophy of never reading literature. At least it seems that way when reading their books...
