    A Comprehensive Russian Grammar

Has anyone bought or read this book? From the reviews on Amazon it is supposedly the reference book to own. I saw it at Borders once but it was like $45 and thus went from my "I shall buy this book today book list" to my "maybe someday I'll take Abbie Hoffman's advice book list"

When I first attempted to learn Russian when I was 18, I bought this book. It was very useful then: my Russian teacher was teaching me 90% grammar and a few random words, which was why I gave up at that time!

Shortly after I gave up my bestfriend said that she was going to do a degree in Russian so I lent the book to her. When I started Russian for the second time I talked to her and she recommended it to me as a great book I didn't have the heart to tell her that it was mine all along! I think there is an exercise book that goes along with it: A Russian Grammar Workbook or something. I intend to buy both as soon as I get through the busy time I'm going through at work and can devote more time to Russian again.

It's supposed to be excellent. I've ordered a copy for myself... I was going to get the workbook as well, but they both cost about $67 ($A) - so I'll wait to see how I go first.

I've got the book - it's excellent, I think. Very thorough (better be, if it's calling itself "comprehensive" ).

This is absolutely the best reference grammar I have ever seen! It is not for beginners. In fact, I have been working with Russian for years and years and am finding new stuff in it. Now if I could only Remember what I read there!

There's another one in English by Pulkina and somebody. But, as it's a Russian product, there is NO INDEX!!! It's more of a learning book, with exercises and such, which Wade does not have.
