Thread: What dictionary (paper) ?

I want a russian dictionary, but it must have translations to another language. What is the best Russian/English dictionary, and best English/Russian dictionary for decent money ?

I am also considering if I shouldn't get a Russian/Danish dictionary instead (here the choice is way smaller), as it might be used by a potential wife.

OMFG Kenneth Katzner's English-Russian Russian-English dictionary. Would someone please put that in the FAQ?

I like the collins russian to english dictionary. It's pretty beefy and it's only about £15 from amazon.co.uk

I know I'm guilty of reviving a dead thread(gasp!), but I just wanted to express my glee at my new copy of ABBYY Lingvo 9.0 Multilingual Edition. Man, this is truly the king of Russian computer dictionaries! I suppose you've all heard enough about it from your Russian friends, but to sum it up, it's got over a million entries and you can highlight a word and press a key combination to get the translation(which provides examples and forms). It's certainly helping me in my reading although it's a bit unpleasant to have to turn on the computer every time I want to read. It's even got Kenneth Katzner's famed English-Russian, Russian-English dictionary included in the standard English-Russian . Now I can be like hundreds of Russians and keep asking people if they've heard about Lingvo. Ahahahhaha! Ahahahahhaha! Ahahahahahhahahahahah!

I've had the same dictionary for my entire Russian career.
They are two seperate books, one for Russian, and one for English.
They are called Learner's. by Folomkina and Weiser.
You could find them for sale on Amazon.
They give you abnormal plurals, perfectives, conjugations, past tense and imperitive along with many examples of how the word is used in different sentences.

Get a PocketPC then. Or Palm, but for that you'll have to get Lingvo 10.
Also, HaaliReader (IMO the best Ebook reader for PocketPC) integrates with PocketLingvo.

Err . . . is there, umm, an OS X version? I did visit the site and from what little Russian I know so far, figured out that it's only available for Windows users.

Sorry, doesn't seem like it. You could get a PC emulator, though.
