    Страхн/ Стракхн

    Страхн/ Стракхн

I'm filling out a visa for russia, and I was wondering how to transliterarte my surname. In english its Strachan (stra-khan/ stra-hun phonetically) so I went down the straight Страхн/ Стракхн route, but it would be nice for some of you guy to see if it sounds o.k. My first names Andrew so I thought I'd go for Андрей.

One day I might get to Астрахань!

Стракхн is bad. The combination -кхн is impossible.
    Страхн isn't good either.
    I'd choose Страхан.
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

I wouldn't put patronymics on your visa if it isn't really part of your name. Then your visa won't match your passport and the border guards will make much money off of you.

However, just for fun, here is my take on these weird patronymics:

    Андрейвич
    Брианович
    Хьюевич

You fill in the form in English, they transliterate it into Russian for you. If you have a middle name put that in the patronymic box.

Если от "Андрей" -- то "Андреевич" (but it's quite normal...)

А если от Andrew -- то, наверное, "Эндрювич" или "Эндрюич"? Мм-да.
    Кр. -- сестр. тал.
