    София или Софья?

How do you usually spell Sophia?
One of my Russian friends told me 'Софья' was wrong, but I remember seeing it. Does it have anything to do with the accent (on the 'и' rather than on the 'o')?

Also, why are double names so weird for Russians?

    Thanks.

"С́офья" is not wrong. ("Софь́я" is wrong.) "Соф́ия" is the same name, but the foreign variant.
It's not weird, it's just not common. A diminutive is "С́оня".

You can use in Russia "́Анна-Соф́ия".
In Russian, all nationalities and their corresponding languages start with a lower-case letter.

    Another foreign variant is Софи

For instance, the famous Italian actress Sophia Loren is called Софи Лорен in Russian.

    Наоборот.

София - это транслитерация с греческого на страрославянский. У болгар такой вариант и остался.

Софья - укороченное восточнославянское произношение, закрепившееся в русском языке.
