There was a character called this in a book called "преступление и наказание." Is this name still used in Russia?
It's a cool name don't you think? If I had a Russian girlfriend I would want her name to be this one.

Really, was it авдотья? I can't remember such a character, can you refreshen my memory, who was she?
Her full name was Авдотья but they called her Доуня (dunno how it's spelled).
Maybe it's not exact but it's something like that.
Wikipedia:
Авдотья — народная форма имени Евдокия. Производные формы: Авдоня, Авдотька, Авдотьюшка, Авдоха, Авдоша, Авдуля, Авдуся, Дуся.
What is the народная форма of a name?
It's an old name... Not very common any more... However, I know a girl whose name is Арфения...

My father-in-law has a house in a village called Авдотино.
Nope... It's not that pleasing... It's just an old name for me... Though, Дунька has also some different meanings:Quote:

I bet having such a name she would be teased mercilessly at school. :)Quote:
