    Stephen in Russian

Is Stephen at all a Russian name? I know its Greek in origin, but are there Russians with this name? Is it popular? And how would you pronounce it po-russki?

Probably Степан. That guy up there in the "US Immigration" forum ad has a last name derived from this - Stepanov.

I am not sure that Степан is equal to Stephen. If you need to write your name in Russian, you better write it Стефен. Historicly Степан could come from Stephen, but now nobody would do the correlation.

For Frederic I do not know anything in Russian. So use Фредерик for that.

Does not Yaroslav equate to Stephan?

Does not Yaroslav equate to Stephan?
Ярослав означает "Яркий в Славе" или, возможно "Славящийся Яростью".

In the interest of bumping up this really old thread, I should like to note that my name is "Steven" the Americanized form of Stephen, and all my Russian friends, teachers, etc. call me Степан or one of it's accepted short forms.

    Yes

Stephen is pronounced the same as Steven.
Both would be Стивен transliterated into Russian.

    Stefan is Стефан.
