Select a Russian name for me
I need a male Russian name that sounds good with my last name, which transliterates into Швед.
I would prefer a name that is NOT super common. Please list super common names anyway, but try to think of some less common ones.
I’m a young guy (20’s), do NOT select a name that sounds good for a 70 year old, but does not fit a 20 year old. For example, if a 20 year old Russian man asked me for an American/English name, I would NEVER select Dick, Harry, Herman, Erney, Moe, etc. I strongly feel those names are terrible for younger men; however, I would have no problem giving one of those names to an older man.
I don’t know any Russians so I’m relying on strangers (you). Getting a name in the language your learning is a great first step. Please help.
Re: Select a Russian name for me
What is the purpose?
I used to learn several languages, but I see now that I never did a great first step - I never got a special name in any of them.
(Юрий Швед would go together nicely)

It helps one to fit in.

There's nothing wrong with that name. It hints nicely to the origins and the history of the Russian Crown.
Вадим Швед (my favorite of the 4)
What do you think of these names? Do you have any suggestions?

Эдик and Эмиль are not Russian names. So the only two left: Вадим and Юрий. Personally, I like Юрий more.
P.S. Strictly speaking Юрий has Greek origins (from Γεω´ργιος), the only pure Slavic name from the listed names is Вадим.
Re: Select a Russian name for me
Вадим and Юрий are not originally Russian names too! They are Greek or Latin, aren't they? Russian names are Влодимир, Всеволод, Изяслав and the like. Всеволод Швед - sounds good, doesn't it?

According to many internet sources Вадим is a slavic name (just checked three sites).
Re: Select a Russian name for me
Well, pure slavic names can be found here: http://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/
but they are not using in Russia now, except few names, and yes, Вадим is slavic name:
Quote:
Re: Select a Russian name for me
Wiki is not a trustful source, is it?

No, it is. There are indeed some inaccuracies here and there, but generally it's a very reliable source of information. Much more reliable than some mysterious URL from some less populated part of the world. Even the news can be obtained there sometimes, and without any bias.
What concerns the name, I've checked many sources, not only Wikipedia. Вадим is a Slavic name.
Re: Select a Russian name for me
These are the suggestions I’ve gotten so far.
What do you think? Any suggestions? On a scale from 1 – 10 what would you rate these names?
Re: Select a Russian name for me
Your surname and Russian names are no good match. But if you wish:
5/10 Вадим Швед
4/10 Влодимир Швед
3/10 Всеволод Швед
3/10 Изяслав Швед
4/10 Эдик Швед
6/10 Эмиль Швед (hm... maybe Емельян (Емеля)? then 2/10)
6/10 Юрий Швед

Perhaps, the surname Шведов would look more natural in Russian.

What would you rate them with Шведов? I want a name that scores an 8, 9, or 10.
