I believe it's "иевич" instead "ьевич" only (but not always) when there are two consonants before ий. Anyway, even if you make that kind of mistake (especially in rarely used names) it won't be very noticeable.

Edit#1: The only name which has one consanant before ий and forms patronimic with иевич that comes to mind is Акакий (patronimic - Акакиевич).

"д) Мужские имена на -ий имеют две формы документальных отчеств: на -иевич и -ьевич. На первом месте даются формы на -иевич, -иевна. Две другие следуют после союза “и”. Например:

АРКАДИЙ ... Отч.: Аркадиевич, Аркадиевна и Аркадьевич, Аркадьевна; разг. Аркадьич."

So most likely that officially both variants are correct for the same name though usually only one is commonly used.
