is this a russkie name ?

or more like ruskaya

"Элеонора" this is alot like the english name "Elenor", infact it's exaclty the same, it just has an A on the end, i saw a picuture of her at some conference, for a new CD release, she was wearing a shirt with an american flag sewn into it. and, in the same conference, like 20 mins later she had a shirt on that said "omaha nebraska" . so maybe she is an american chick in a russian band ? or... maybe she just thinks that us yanks are super cool ?!

имя is actually a neuter word. One of like 10 MYA suffixes in the language that are all neuter. Note: мья is feminine. So russkoe imya

i dont know, You said more like russkaya (so i thought you were referring to russkaya describing imya).

as far as the original, i have no idea. -actually on second thought, im gonna say its not, because yelena is such a common name.

Yes. may be it's just a Russian variation of a common name, like Елена <= Helena, Helen etc.
I new one Russian woman with the name Элеонора.

I had no idea there were 10. Время comes to mind as an obvious one though.

Yes, in singular the same way but in plural there are some differences

Last names

Hi i was wondering if my grandparents last names were of russian origin. In english they are spelled Chamulak, and the other one is Nockein..if not russian what type of names are they? Thanks to anyone who can help

Neither sound Russian to me. Mind you, there are many non-Russian-sounding surnames in Russia. Not everyone who lives in Russia is Russian.
