Thread: My Russian name?

My name is Lindsey. How would I write this in Russian?

Perhaps Линдзи.

In my class the teacher had us pick Russian names to use...

Меня зовут Дмитрий.

I've had a few Russian friends call me Liza (pronounced like Liza Minnelli) and Lisa (pronounce Leeza). Was this just easier for them? Also would their pronounciation depend on what part of the country they were from?
I started to post a request for my Russian equivalent until thankfully right after I posted it, I found someone's previous answer to a similar question and rephrased it.

Lindsey would be my name. But how would it sound? If I chose a Russian name to go by, I would like one to sound as close to my original name as possible. Any suggestions?

Um, well Liza is short for Elizaveta. I am not sure how to translate your name. Maybe Liza?

The nickname for Людмила is Люда. What does "stem from" mean? Do you mean like "come from?"

У Людмилы много уменьшительно-ласкательных вариантов: она же Людмилка, Люда, Люся, Людочек, Людушка, Люля, Мила, Милаша, Милуша, Мика.

I am still learning my alphabet so I don't know what some of the responses say... yet!

But yes, stem from is a way of saying comes from.

Well, I generally spell mine Линдзи. On my visa it says Линдсaй. I suppose it depends on how you pronounce your name.

Nope. They had me do the paperwork in English, then messed it all up on their own with no help from me
