Krivda
My mother's maiden name is Krivda. My grandfather use to say it was Russian in origin. His parents migrated to America in the 1880's from Slovakia. I am wondering if it is Russian and what part of Russia it might have come from. Thank you in advance.

Re: Krivda
I have met this name only in russian tales. It is the opposite word of Pravda (truth). So, Krivda means a lie.
Maybe there are another meaning of it, but in russian tales it is so.

Разговорный вариант:
- Это правда!
- Нет! Не правда, а кривда!
"Кривда" - скорее всего, от "кривой".
