    Joscha

Hello, my parents told me that my name (Joscha) is Russian, true or false? and i'd like to know how you write it in Russian language and how to pro-nounce it. And does it have a meaning? like Svetlana = Light.
Thnx, i'd wish to know anything about my name.

His name in ENGLISH is Joscha. That's how he spells it.

Йоша only has 3000 hits on google. And they are mostly about foreigners (non-Russians).

Joscha has 277,000 hits, and names such as Joscha Bach (a proper German name come up).

    It is German, not Russian.

It possible can be Yiddish - Hebrew language (Jewish German) formely widespreaded in Belorussia, Poland and Lithuania - the western parts of Russian Empire. It is possible reason why Joscha's parents say that this name is Russian

Yiddish and Hebrew are completely different, only sharing the same script.

    Yes, is Joscha a Jew?
