Thread: Republic of Karelia – Land of Thousands of Lakes

Republic of Karelia is one of the most beautiful places in Russia. Mild climate and fascinating nature make the republic extremely pleasant place to spend a vacation. There are more than 60,000 lakes and 50,000 rivers in Karelia.
Do you want to enjoy nature views and spend healthy time here? – Please, have a rest in one of the local spa or go rafting.
If you wish to see cultural heritage – visit petroglyphs, Kizhi island, Valaam monastery or just walk through Petrozavodsk or other cities of Karelia.
You can easily get to Karelia and Petrozavodsk from Moscow, St.- Petersburg or Helsinki. At the same time although it is situated not so far from central regions of Russia, Karelia is very safe and peaceful place to travel. Native people here are very friendly and hospitable.

A land taken away to their legitimate owners, the population sent away. Better to visit Finnish Carelia (Karjala), where at least the original population is still there.

Собственно, кореное население и ныне там - вепсы, карелы - все присутствует. а в Финляндии все больше финны-ингерманландцы. немного другое.
