a question from the other side
I have an acquaintance in Moscow who would like to visit the United States simply as a tourist. I am an American and even I have a hard time finding the information on who is allowed to visit the US...
He thinks that he will not be permitted to visit because of his time spent in the military and then as a police officer. He operates a clothing shop now.
Does anyone know where I can find the correct information?
Thank you.

First thing, I'd try the US Embassy in Moscow. Try e-mailing them, they are sure to know everything you want to know :). But first, check their web site, especially the section on non-immigrant visas: http://moscow.usembassy.gov/nivservices.html

Thank you very much. That site also was available in Russian so he can check it out himself at his own leisure and not have to use a translator.
