    the madness

I am having such a problem...everytime I call Russia they are rude and have no decent information. So heres the deal I'm flying from Vancouver to Moscow. Then from there going to a small village to see my family for three weeks....after that I'm off to St.Petersburg for the next 11 months or so. My question is this...do I register my business visa in Moscow and then go traveling? Or should I try to find a bigger city by the village to register? When I go to St.Petersburg I'm going to go to Estonia for the visa run every 3 months (as required...also have family there) When I enter Russia again at the Estonian boarder will I have problems and will I have to always go to Moscow to re-register? I'm so confused...HELP!

If you have a one year business visa you must register through the company/business that invited you. You must register within 72 hours (business days, weekends don't count)of landing in Russia. If you are staying in a hotel in Moscow for several days they will take your passport and register you and they will give you a stamped voucher to carry with you until they return your passport to you (could be a few days). If you "bought" your invitation from a tour company they should register you under the name of the company that appears on your visa as the business that invited you. The registration stamp on your migration card should have the name of "your company" matching the one on your visa. If your tour company doesn't do this service, remember not to use them next time!
You don't have to cross the border and reregister every 3 months, it's every 6 months. You should get a new migration card when you reenter (be sure to request one if they don't automatically give it to you) and you will have to do the registration song and dance all over again. If you enter Russia by bus from Estonia, what do you put as point of entry on your visa form? I've only entered Russia by air before.

On your visa application you must list all the places you plan to visit but not your point of entry. Your point of entry will be stamped on your visa by passport control at the site of entry. Your registraion stamp will go on your migration card, so don't forget to get a new one when you reenter.
