    What's up with conjugations?

Ok.. I have just started this whole Russian thing. I speak spanish, and some German. But this russian thing is throwing me. I'm having problems with how the words in sentences change to fit a topic. I understand Mas. Fem. and Neuter, And I understand the verbs I have been working with. But what dictates how the other words change, Is there a ryme or reason? I'm sure there is. If some one could point me in some direction to find gramatical resources it would be appreciated.

Well, well, guess who's asking for help? Mr. As-my-first-post-I'm-going-to-go-in-a-mad-rage-about-some-forum-member(me). You know, maybe I shouldn't hang around with the new people like you said. I'll just let other new people who don't know what they're talking about answer your question. We elite members keep to ourselves, punk. However, you're lucky that I'm in the Cult of Friendy. Our mysterious leader Friendy has always advocated mercy and forgiveness even to the most wretched of us. Bow down, and give thanks not to me, but the great Friendy for her mercy!!

    (channeling Friendy's spirit)

What a lovely day today! There are birdies in the trees! And rainbows! And I'm going to help you with your Russian! As for how other words change, it's because of cases. Cases show the relation of one word to another word! For example, the genitive case tells us that one word is "of" something else. And the dative case tells us what something is "to"(to put it simply)! There are six cases altogether. But I can't sit here and tell you all of them, because it would fill an entire grammar book! Which is what I suggest you to look into. How are you beginning to learn Russian? Are you using a book? If so, the book will explain the cases in detail later on(if it's worth anything). Lovely day to you! I'm going to go outside and work in the garden. My flowers are so beautiful! Also, greatest blessings to Pravit. Byebye!

Pravitt you jack @ss. Some how I knew you would be the one to answer me.. As for my enthalpated rage. I never had any. You just seem to be some one that needed to know you are a jack @ass. Sorry to offend you. Punk. But if ya hadn't noticed the tellings of other ellites such as yourself many share that opinion. hey for all I know ya might be an alright guy.. or what ever you maybe. But ya still come off like a prudish butt hole. So it seems to me the only one here with any pend up anger is yourself or you woudn't either come across as you do , nor would you take a posture to parry. I mean after all, how different is what I did to you as what you did to that other guy and to other people that I have seen your replies for. But I appreciate your vague ( at best ) answer. So many thanks To you or whome ever that was, for the direction. Atleast I now have something to follow. And even though I do enjoy the many flavors of your picturesque ramblings. I now yawn from your drivle and should retire to other prospects. But don't be offended. ya jack@ss after all, It's boring to answer any other way.

Also, once again to put my points in bulleted form:

    a)Pravit is still awesome.
b)Friendy is also awesome. And really nice.
c)Pravit's channelling of Friendy was awesome. And really funny.
    d)Yo, chill.
e)"jackass" is one word. Just FYI.

I realize that jack @ss is one word only trying to obey the rules as like the rest of you. second, I never questioned Pravitts demenor. only his crappy way of sarcasm that we "Americans" don't understand. But ya know I understand that the rest of the world is upset with us. hell at times I"m upset with us. But ya know I just have to respond to people that I think need a little objection I mean If Pravitt would have said jackass as 2 words would ya think that's great too? But hey I have no quarem with you and wish to keep it that way, I don't even really have a quarem with Pravitt, He's the one that answered the way he did. as far as I knew we aired our opinions of each other the other night so as I was concerend the matter was dropped until now. So for as far as "CHILL" as you put. Remember I was not the attacker but the attacked this time. It is all to keep it more interesting and fun right? Now for your question. and by the way. I don't think I have seen a post from you other than the one I have just recieved. Rage.. anger? enthalpated.. present subjective of enthalpy.

a)Pravit is also an American. A rather sarcastic American.
b)Enthalpy is a noun. The adjectival form is "enthalpic," I believe. I'm fairly certain "enthalpated" isn't a word. And I wasn't trying to be snide about the "enthalpated" thing, I honestly had no idea where you were deriving the word from.
c)Chilling is still advised. I believe that were you to read around the forum a bit, you would discover that Pravit has a tendency for hyperbole, and for couching his points comedically.

    Dear devilfromindy,
Your reply to Pravit is rude, crude and offensive. Calling people jacka** and b***hole is in such poor taste that I am making a public complaint to the Moderator.
So Mike, how long must we suffer this fool?
Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore.

Pravit, Friendy's given me tons of help here, all without expecting anything in return. So don't take the piss.

Or else .. or else, given the impending banishment (maybe?) of our resident psychopath, I will have to take on the role myself.. and challenge you to a DUEL!

Breaking with tradition, I will choose the weapon: large lovingly leather-bound special editions of Nicholas J Brown! I will beat you around the head so hard you won't be able to conjugate знать anymore!!

no one can make someone else feel so awkward about themselves quite like Линдзи can. I always enjoy how she uses her enemies words/ grammar errors against them. It's like a soldier being killed with his own weapon ! Oh the irony ! How i loath for more !

@ the знать thing. hahahahahahah, waxwing, yea ! lololol, i was wondering if i was the only one that noticed that
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!

I learned everything I know from joysof

Look, I just take my curses very seriously, okay? If one is going to curse, they must learn to curse properly and beautifully. For an example of truly sublime cursing, I point you toward the film "Matrix Reloaded," which was otherwise quite horrendous, but contained some truly stunning cursing on the part of the Merovingian.

My dear friends(each and every one of you, yes, including the ones I don't like),

Devilfromindy: OK, I'm sorry if you find my posts offensive. But, friend, you must realize that I wasn't trying to attack you at all. I think it is you who does not understand my intentions. You call yourself the "attacked" here. I will use Lindzi's simple bullet format to explain this.
    a) You attacked me about something I said to something else(which you misunderstood).
    b) You asked a question.
    c) I answered it despite your insults in the other thread.
    d) You say that I attacked you.

Perhaps if I had not answered your question but merely ridiculed you, it would be an attack. But I do believe you owe me an apology.

As for my post being vague, you have to realize that explaining the way words change in entirety would take a whole grammar book. The reason words change in Russian is due to cases - for example, we have one word
    книга - book
    and another word
    мальчик - boy
If we want to say "the book of the boy", it would be книга мальчика. You see, "boy" changed because it's in the genitive(which I explained earlier). But there is so much more to it than just that, there are endings, endings of adjectives, verbs that take certain cases, and you really need a whole book(or class, or teacher) to explain it all to you.

Again, I was not trying to offend you, but apologies if I did. But unless you really are delopio, I don't think it is any of your business what I say to someone else. Now please stop with your rudeness.

    Waxwing:
My very best English friend on earth(Jasper, I'm classifying you as my very best Dutch friend on earth), I am not trying to take the piss out of Friendy(unless that was also a fiendish sarcastic subterfuge!). Friendy has spent amazing amounts of time teaching me and others on this forum for nothing. And she's merciful and nice even to mean people. As such, I made a funny post about it(me attempting to answer this guy's question despite his insults was very Friendy-like IMO). Don't tell me even the Brits have lost their sense of humor...

By the way, I'm the Head Priest of the Cult of Friendy. Join us, or...well, I guess Friendy's too nice to make you stay outside and gnash your teeth. Friendy, have you ever considered running for office up there?

Friendy: I bask in the glorious blessing of our great leader! She has acknowledged my good works! Glorious day!!!

Lindzi: You're still the sexiest cousin.

In the book "new penguin russian" It is so n00b and can't even refer to verbs as 1st or 2nd conjugation verbs. So instead, after every 1st conjugation verb it says "Знать" Type. Thus, making it impossible to forget знать.
Вот это да, я так люблю себя. И сегодня я люблю себя, ещё больше чем вчера, а завтра я буду любить себя to ещё больше чем сегодня. Тем что происходит,я вполне доволен!
