    Starting out

Well I'm new to the forum but not so new to Russian. I started learning it in 3rd grade, then I stopped, and now I'm 16 I want to learn it more (my grandparents spoke Russian). I know the basics, and I'm starting to forget everything. It's hard because I've been learning Spanish at the same time and I need to learn French for this summer. (I did a lil` Chinese, but it's too copmlicated right now). I need some motiviation to continue on with Russian Thanks.

Go for it!!! There is no quick fix, but just start slowly and be prepared that even with hard study it will take years* to become really good. But don't let that worry you. Just enjoy every new word you learn and be fascinated by every new intrinsicity of the grammar you come across and your Russian will take care of itself.

*although, come to think of it, especially V and Dogboy too seem to have made awesome progress over the last year.

I wouldn't recommend trying to learn 3 languages at the same time. If you need to learn French, then don't start with Russian until afterwards. I can't imagine that being an easy process.

To garmonistka: I've come to the conclusion that V is a robot like Vicky from Small Wonder. In fact, he may be her twin sister.

    New To This Group

Well, I'm not really sure why I want to learn Russian. I know English and Spanish fluently and I am able to read French and know most of what it says, but pronouncing French is a sad mistake for me. The main reason I want to learn Russian is because there are several Russians, Slovenians and Ukranians where I work. There is an old man named Gregory. It is so difficult to communicate with him, but he seems like he has many stories to tell. Privet. Mena zavut Julie. Ya ploho gavarite pa ruccki. Help me, please!!!!

I can say to you that Russian, Slovenian and Ukrainian are very different languages. I speak Russian good, but I don't understand neither Slovenian nor Ukrainian. You should decide whose stories are more interesting

    In response

I would prefer to learn Russian more than Slovenian or Ukranian because most of the people I work with speak Russian. Please write back if you can help me. Thank you. Spaciba. Julie

I can help only with concrete questions, talking and corrections (for example, your previous post must be "я плохо говорю по-русски"). But I don't know simple rules of Russian grammar, so I'm not a good teacher. Can you read cyrillic?

    Reading cyrilic

Well, I'm starting to learn the Russian alphabet. I can read cyrilic a little, but I'm having trouble reading and pronouncing the vowels. I'm just a beginner. I need to learn vocabulary and grammer.

I'm learning Spanish (a lot of experience) and Russian (newbie) right now as well.
