Thread: Should I learn the Cyrillic Alphabet first?

I'm a beginner at Russian but I love it!
I'm wondering if I should learn the Cyrillic Alphabet, both how to speak and write it?
I correspond a lot by email with a Russian speaking person,
and I do all of the translating from Russian to English and back again.
So, I've learned what certain words look like in Cyrillic - like Wow and Love.
Then I started thinking maybe I should master Cyrillic....should I?

If you're serious about learning the language, then yes. You definitely MUST. If you're okay with how the things are right now, then learning Cyrillic is entirely up to you, just to broaden your horizons if you know what I mean.

Learning the alphabet is on the one hand a very easy thing and on the other hand a very useful thing for further language learning.
You certainly want to learn it!

Alphabet is a MUST! I thought I couldn't learn it at all, all those characters looked like aliens to me. As soon as I learned them, my Russian is going pretty well
