In my teach yourself Russian from 1956, it says that the letter which(sorry, I don't know how to do cyrillic yet) everyone seems to pronounce "ee" is pronounced "ih". Which one should I use?

Are you talking about a 'и'?
If so, it's technically pronounced "ee", but when it's unstressed in speech its often reduced just to "ih".
