First of all Hello to everyone I hope to learn a lot from the people on here through there advice and input.
However I wonder if you could give me some advice/input in regards to the following.
I am just starting out learning Russian and have gone for the audio approach and am learning the pronunciation of words and how they sound in Russian, consisting of very basic words but learning in such a format that these can be put together in a variety of ways to make different sentences.
I have also signed up with a worldwide penfriend website and have made contact with a couple of people from Russia.BUT here is the problem in order for me to write or email people I will need to learn how to type and understand the written word so have I "shot myself in the foot" so to speak.
Presumably if I were to learn the Russian alphabet that wouldnt be enough as I would need to know the Russian word that I want to communicate and then spell it, meaning that the person on the other end who spoke Russian but not a lot of English would have difficulty reading my emails. and vice versa me reading the Russian.
Should I have done the written word first and then the spoken? obviously I dont want to overload myself by trying to do two things at once. but what would be the most important in your honest opinion.
personaly I feel I am doing quite well with the basics, there is still a long way to go but any help/advice you could give from your own personal development and how you went about learning Russian would be most greatful
Thank You
