Is this a good way to learn?

I realize that I am an Internet junkie and I am online on my iPod Touch most of the time, so I changed my language settings to Russian on my iPod, as well as on Facebook.

Also, because my school is mainly Russian, I found out that my school's homepage can be changed into that language as well.

So far, it's working well for me. I know the clauses to a couple of words without even looking at one grammar book, and I know that I can't only use this alone for my studies, but I wanted to know of you guys thought this was a good, effective way to kind of immerse myself.

I think its quite helpful. You will learn many new words that way. Of course, you'll need to look up all those words in the dictionary! When I was playing Quest games in English long time ago I learned lots of new English words and expressions.
But if you live in the USA, the disadvantage of having Facebook/Google/etc. in Russian is that they will assume you are from Russia and feed you a lot of information not related to your actual location.

Yea, I kinda noticed that since I'm seeing alot of Russian ads lately.

And I haven't really had to look at the dictionary that often because I know the layouts of my iPod, Facebook, etc. For instance, after seeing "Еще" or "Ещё" on drop-columns, I can assume it means something along the lines of "More". Or on Facebook, "14 Декабрь 1995 г." is how they write my birthday.

I'm feeling pretty confident in my reading skills, but speaking... not so much.

This is bright idea! Now i replace my opera, skype and msn interface from Russian into English It works and forces to view in dictionary some words
Отличная идея! Я тоже заменил язык интерфейса в Опере, Скайп и Msn с русского на английский. Работает, уже приходится в словарь заглядывать

It's hard to get enough of something that almost works.

    14 Декабрь 1995 г
14 декабря 1995 года. (Четырнадцатое декабря тысяча девятьсот девяносто пятого года)
    Так правильно пишутся даты.
Another month ends. All targets met. All systems working. All customers satisfied. All staff eagerly enthusiastic. All pigs fed and ready to fly.

Yes, if something can be localized in the wrong way, it's safe to assume that it will be. And as a non-native reader you never know where exactly.
Russian is tough, let’s go shopping!
