    Collins Gem

Has anyone tried the Collins Gem Russian>>English English>>Russian Dictionary? I bought it the other day and it is pretty good (and cheap-$6.95) for its tiny size. It gives all of the conjugate stems, stress marks, and where the stress changes in declension. It also has tables in the back for the irregulars and numbers. Anyway, I'm not a shill so I won't say anymore, but I don't regret buying it.

Oh, and it's over 700 pages but fits in my front pocket if I'm wearing loose jeans.

I found a fantastic grammar book at Borders, but it was $36 and I only had $8. And that is the story of the Collins Gem Dictionary and how it came to be in my possession. The end.

I guess in USA you don't have online translators. In difficult cases I use online translator lingvo.ru from ABBYY company. It is free service with very detailed explanations.

I have the Lingvo 8 MLE, but it crashes often. Maybe because I use XP Pro, I don't know. I remember 6 wouldn't even install in XP Pro. Besides, how will you learn the words if the translator is doing all the work?

It is not doing all the work. It can only translate separate words. Usually I do not need to use dictionary for words that I translated yet. By the way I was trying to install Lingvo last week. He does not want to be installed. Гад.

Try "Babylon Pro" translator... You have to pay for it
(but you know you can get keygens for it and save your money...).
    From Russia with love...

Я тут ещё использую старенький "Сократ 97". Он немножко stupid, но тоже помогает.

I have Babylon Pro, too, but I only use it for measurement/currency conversion these days. The one thing I don't like about it is that there are more words in the English-Russian dictionaries than in the Russian-English. So if I am writing something in Russian it is very helpful, but if I am translating to English it is often useless. I would have to say Lingvo is ten times better (as long as you don't get those stupid error messages and have to shut it down and restart it).

Nobody tried "Stylus"? I think it is among the best translators.

Sometimes it's a protection fault, sometimes a "security error," sometimes one of the DLLs just crashes and I'll have to reboot to get it working.

Well i use on-line translators, of which i have already posted the links elsewhere on this forum. As for Dictionaries, i prefer Oxford, i have the full version, starter, mini and grammar and verbs books......and its still not enough!!
